Currently generating only about 2% of the world’s power, there is much room for expansion in renewable energy products. While wind turbine power may not be the only energy source for the future, it has many financial, technological and eco-friendly benefits to consider.

Companies whose products regularly emit carbon dioxide and other byproducts into the air are increasingly buying carbon offsets, which are a financial document in the oil or natural gas industry. Carbon offsets are a carbon management strategy purchased by companies in order to comply with their caps of allowable carbon dioxide emissions. A company might purchase a wind farm in addition to increase their environmentally-friendly pursuits.

With wind energy an up-and-coming alternative power source, the City of Virginia Beach is looking into a billion-dollar project about 12 miles offshore, which could create about 200 wind turbines. The wind averages about 10.4 miles per hour in that part of the Atlantic Ocean, where the Outer Continental Shelf is shallow.
